Too Hot To Hoot - A Feast of palindromic mini-operas

Opera on Location are delighted to return as part of the Classical Sheffield Festival, and bring you a fascinating evening of musical entertainment. Focussing on the concept of palindromes, Opera on Location will perform Paul Hindemith’s Hin und Zuruck (There and Back), a one act opera in which a conversation between husband and wife plunges into a quarrel, and escalates into a shooting. However, determined to ensure his opera had a happy ending, Hindemith reverses the story and most remarkably the music half way through to ensure an action packed and impressive 12-minute opera.

In response to Hindemith’s ingenious work, Sheffield’s composers’ collective Platform 4 have created four new striking theatrical miniatures that explore the entertaining and often surreal wordplay arising from palindromic texts.

All pieces will be sung in English
