A Midsummer Night's Dream (2013), Opera on Location

Join our Board

We are seeking up to three new Trustees to join our welcoming, dynamic Board to work alongside our existing Trustees in supporting Opera on Location.

Formed in 2013 and based in South Yorkshire, Opera on Location strives to create exciting, site-specific opera sung in English and provide opportunities for young, professional singers.

The organisation gained charitable status in June 2020 and is committed to bringing innovatively staged, high quality, affordable opera to the region whilst challenging the common misconceptions often associated with the art form.

Opera on Location currently programmes one fully staged opera each year in addition to other projects. As the charity approaches its 10th anniversary in 2023 and beyond, we aim to gradually expand our programme of activity.

Who we are looking for

We would love to hear from you if you share our vision and passion for the arts, believe that opera is for everyone and are keen to generously share your experience and skills to support our work.

We are looking for people who are active or interested in the arts sector. Opera on Location believes that our Board of Trustees should reflect the diversity of our city, as such, we welcome applications from anyone regardless of their race, gender, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

We are keen to hear from all interested individuals but are ideally looking for people who have skills in these areas:

  • Legal expertise

  • Marketing and communications

  • Development / Fundraising (particularly membership schemes)

What the role involves

New Trustees will help to broaden our horizons, shape strategic development and will bring a breadth of professional knowledge and lived experience to the Board. The Board of Trustees are responsible for leading the long-term strategy of Opera on Location, ensuring the financial and legal aspects are in order and provide advice and support to the Co-artistic Directors who look after the artistic and day-to-day running of the organisation.

We are seeking to recruit up to three new trustees who share our aim of making opera more accessible along with the importance and relevance of Opera on Location’s place as the only professional opera company in Sheffield’s rich and varied music scene. Over the last couple of years, the organisation has gone from strength to strength and continues to do so: gaining charitable status in 2020, launching a Friends scheme in 2021 and approaching its 10th anniversary in 2023.

The board meets (virtually or in-person) at least 4 times a year including an Annual General Meeting. In addition to this, members of the Board may be involved in sub-committees, training or events.
