Cavalleria rusticana & Pagliacci
Mascagni / Leoncavallo
August 25, 26 and 27
Sheffield University Drama Studio
Sung in English
Join Opera on Location this August for Verismo – a reimagining of one of the most iconic double bills in opera, Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci.
This groundbreaking new interpretation of these popular one act operas will see the Pagliacci theatre troupe in the final preparations for their upcoming production of Cavalleria rusticana. During the first run-through of their new production, the cast allow their personal feelings to take control. The lines between theatre and reality, truth and fiction, are blurred as love, anger and jealousy overwhelm the cast.
Starring Canio and Nedda Caruso as Cavalleria's tragic lovers, audiences will be transported to the home front of World War II in a rollicking musical extravaganza.
Opera on Location is thrilled to mark its return to indoor performances with this premiere, an unmissable event for Sheffield audiences!
Content Warning: This production includes scenes of violence, the sound of gunshots and bombs, abuse, swearing, and depictions of World War II. Viewer discretion is advised.
